Courses Offered

5606Y. Molecular Biology for Pharmacology. This course is intended to provide background and training to students interested in understanding and employing molecular biological techniques for pharmacologic research. The primary goal of the course is to provide the student with the intellectual skills to design experiments based on the manipulation of DNA/RNA/protein to modulate protein structure/function, and ligand-receptor or protein-protein interactions.

Topics covered will include isolating and cloning genes, methods to evaluate expression, production of expression vectors, mammalian and non-mammalian expression systems, site-directed mutagenesis, microarray screening, RNAi technology, transgenics, and gene ablation (knockouts; classical and conditional).
